EGAA supported Arunachal Festival of Speed 2014, a JK Tyre and Motor Sport Club of Arunachal Pradesh initiative

JK Tyre, the pioneer in motorsport in the country is leaving no stone unturned to promote motorsport in the North-East and give a new shape to national integration as it ties up with Motor Sport Club of Arunachal Pradesh to organize the Arunachal Festival of Speed 2014, which is scheduled for Feb 1-2 at Dirang Stadium in Arunachal Pradesh, stated the President of Motor Sport Club Lhakpa Tsering, while addressing the media here on Tuesday.

Tsering said that the Motor Sport Club of Arunachal Pradesh is affiliated to the Federation of Motor Sport Club of India (FMSCI) and is a huge platform for budding motorsport enthusiasts to showcase their talents and compete at the national level.

Racers from across the north-eastern states will be participating at this event, which will encourage the youth of the north-east to prove their worth in motorsports, said Tsering. The total number of participants for the event stands at 50. Top 50 rally drivers from all parts of the country will head to the valley of Dirang to compete in this extreme sport event, Tsering added.

Mrinmoy Sinha, the head of Extreme Games Association of Assam (the pioneer in rally sports in the north-east) and advisor to the Motor Sports Club of Arunachal Pradesh, Anand Serang, advisor and official, Motor Sports Club and Amitabh Indra, member of autocross drivers were also present at the press conference.

Tsering has said the two-day event will start off on Feb 1 with a cultural show and rock concert to mark the beginning of the event as Arunachal has a culture that is beautiful enough to add to its glory. The festival will witness three forms of extreme sports. Autocross, which will be held at Dirang stadium with drivers competing for the best timing, Rally Sprint and Rally Hill, which will be held in Sangti Valley, across the Dirang riverside from the highway.

Atihur Rehman, the man behind the rally and advisor to the MSCA, said, Gaurav Gill, the current Asia-Pacific rally champion and the best rally driver in the country, Suresh Rana the nine-time Raid de Himalaya champion and Philipous Mathai, a highly popular name in autocross in India will be present, besides a young local talent who has been hailed as a fearless rally driver from Dirang and winner of several local events in Arunachal Pradesh.

Tsering said that there is a cash prize of Rs 700,000 for the winners and 41 prizes in different categories, including below 1600 cc, over 1600 cc, sub-class and open class. There are ladies trophies and team trophies as well for different teams that enter and form their own team.
